running in place

Duration: 6'30"

Instrumentation: clarinet and marimba

Program Notes:

"Running in Place" was written for the Blanton Museum of Art in celebration of their exhibit of the work of artists Sol Lewitt and Eva Hesse. It was inspired by the Sol Lewitt painting "Run", and is meant to portray the sense of movement that can be suggested by a still portrait, through the driving momentum of the rhythms and the relative stasis of its harmonic movement.

Concert Premiere: April 29th, 2014, by Alex Ford, clarinet, and Andrew Boss, piano, Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, TX.
